The hypnotism services I render to the public are defined as the use of hypnosis to inculcate positive thinking and the capacity for self-hypnosis. I do not represent my services as any form of medical, behavioral or mental health care, and despite research to the contrary, by law, I may make no health benefit claims for my services.  North Shore Hypnosis utilizes hypnotism to help clients where I coach or guide to motivate individuals to achieve their goals. Hypnotism for medical or psychological problems requires a written referral from a licensed practitioner of those healing arts." - Carol Denicker, BCH, CMI

Pain Management

Origins of Pain

The capacity for pain is necessary and important; without it, you wouldn't know if you were sick or injured. To understand why you are having pain, you must first seek a medical diagnosis. At North Shore Hypnosis we require a medical referral for pain issues because the condition could worsen while hypnosis is blocking the pain.

Pain is the number one reason people seek medical attention, and pain killers

Imagine you're clearing rocks from a garden and while lifting a particularly large one, you drop it on your big toe.   Chemicals located in the nerve endings are released and the pain message is transmitted from the toe to the brain. These chemicals increase circulation to the injured area, causing swelling and redness. (A natural process that fights off bacteria.) The pain message travels to the spinal cord, to the sensory center of the brain, and on to the cortex where the location of the pain is deciphered. At this point, you might scream. Then, within moments, chemicals are released to provide pain relief and your toe seems to hurt less.

Four factors that impact the intensity of pain are

  • your emotions
  • your previous experiences or associations with pain
  • your personality characteristics
  • what pain signifies to you

Sources of Pain

  • chronic pain
  • pain due to surgery
  • pain due to injury, illness or disease

Pain Management is  a Glowing Achievement of Hypnosis

. If you're in pain, accept that relief is possible. Expect relief!

Hypnotism utilizes three fundamental procedures

  • To transform, alter or displace your pain
  • To directly address your pain and suggest that it decrease
  • To direct your attention away from pain to experience the benefits of peaceful imagery

Stress and pain often feed on each other, becoming a vicious cycle

Pain causing stress, stress causes pain; more pain causes more stress, which causes more pain, and so the cycle continues. Chronic stress becomes chronic pain; chronic pain causes chronic stress.

In hypnosis, clients suffering from pain can be taught to:

  • control, diminish or redirect pain to tolerable levels
  • turn their pain off completely, at will
  • reprogram negative attitudes
  • become aware of secondary gain issues
  • learn self-hypnosis to reinforce pain management techniques
  • relax muscles, decrease stress levels and break the stress/pain cycle
  • poor self-image, fear, stress, worry, guilt, anger impact how pain is perceived
  • coping skills can be programmed and reinforced with self-hypnosis.
